If you think that mobile phones are a 21st Century gadget or a ‘dot com’ device, then you are really wrong. In fact, the first mobile device was sold in the US back in 1983, about 39 years ago. It was developed by a man named Martin Cooper. Despite the phones’ capabilities the Motorola mobile phone was way much too expensive than the current smart phones we are holding. This fact means a lot in the telecom industry as many multi-billion companies like MTN, ZAIN, DIGICEL, AFRICEL etc. had to emerge. Basing on the capabilities of an average smart phone nowadays costing about $40(UGX145,000), the first mobile phone by Martin Cooper would cost 15 times less.
